Tell Ye Your Children…
This book describes what human beings are capable of doing to other human beings when democratic values have been destroyed and replaced by an ideology advocating intolerance, hate and violence.
In 1998, a book about the Holocaust in Europe 1933–1945 was offered to families around Sweden with school-age children. This was a part of an information campaign about the Holocaust initiated by former Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson.
The book Tell Ye Your Children… was meant to help parents tell their children about how the unimaginable became reality. Authors Stéphane Bruchfeld and Paul A. Levine wrote the richly illustrated book in a straightforward manner, describing what can happen when democratic values are destroyed and replaced by an ideology advocating intolerance, hate and violence.
Tell Ye Your Children soon had to be re-printed due to high demand, reaching much wider audiences than originally intended. It is still in use today. So far, more than 1,6 million copies in 18 languages – including English, Arabic, Turkish and Persian – have been printed. Easy-to-read-versions and an e-book have also been made available. In 2015, a chapter on Sweden and it’s relation to the Holocaust was added to the Swedish edition.
