Ten years with the Stockholm Declaration
- Symposium 26 January 2010
In order to mark the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Stockholm Declaration a symposium was arranged in Stockholm on 26 January 2010. In January 2000 The Stockholm Declaration was adopted at the international governmental conference, `Stockholm International Forum on the Holocaust´, hosted by the Swedish government. The Declaration calls for efforts to promote education, remembrance and research about the Holocaust and to ensure that future generations can understand the causes of the Holocaust and reflect upon its consequences.
This declaration plays a key role within the international network Taskforce for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research (ITF). The 27 member states of this network have committed themselves to following its appeals.
Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs arranged, along with the Living History Forum and in partnership with the Norwegian chairperson of the ITF, this symposium to mark the Stockholm Declaration and the continued work in the spirit thereof. Mr. Carl Bildt, Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Norway’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre, attended the symposium and contributed to it. Professor Yehuda Bauer gave, as the Key Note speaker, an introductory speech. Professor Bauer was the founding academic advisor to The International Task Force (ITF) and continues to serve this body as Honorary Chair. He also played a key role in the drafting of the Stockholm Declaration.
Several distinguished experts participated, among them the United Nations Special Advisor on the Prevention of Genocide, Mr. Francis Deng.
